Keepers II features artisans and their myriad passions: from food to design to poetry
In celebration of Valentine's Day, Carrie K.'s second Keepers event will showcase people and things we love. Hosted by Carrie K. Artisan Jewellery, Keepers II is themed Aspects of Love and features artisans and their passions: art, design, champagne, dessert, poetry and, of course, jewellery.

A quarterly event, Keepers aims to bring together independent designers, artists and artisans with the people who love things produced the old-fashioned way – with time and care.

The second in a series, the showcase will be held on Saturday, 11th February from 2pm to 7pm at the Carrie K. Atelier at 136 Bukit Timah Road.

"Keepers was created to bring together independent artists and artisans, who are as passionate about their craft as we are, with people who value the passion and time taken to make things well," said Carolyn Kan, founder and designer of Carrie K. "Keepers II features a mix of artisans who balance their corporate jobs with their passion and those who have taken the plunge to dedicate themselves fully to their passion."

At the Keepers II showcase
• Singapore jewellery designer and silversmith Carrie K. will launch her full Word collection – a jewellery collection comprising necklaces, bracelets and rings with words and sayings close to the heart of both designer and wearer. The collection will include options for customisation so that wearers can select words that are important to them.

• Fine art and design dealer, Wendy Lötter, a former corporate lawyer, will introduce works by two South African artists: Bronwen Vaughan-Evans and Lisa Firer

Bronwen Vaughan-Evans produces artwork with layers of gesso –a mixture of chalk and pigment – to allude to a "metaphorical weight beneath the surface of things".

Ceramic artist Lisa Firer works with high-fired porcelain to create unique, functional pieces of ceramic art that combine pattern and texture with the translucency and delicacy of porcelain.

• Published poet Sanjay C Kuttan, an energy consultant, will do a reading of poetry from his book "Where Fires Rage" an anthology that records his reactions to the events, simple and dramatic, reflecting the concerns of his generation.

• Pang Hian Tee of Lollapalooza Singapore will present a new selection of grower producer champagnes. A former marketing events executive whose first love is great food and wine, he also curates gourmet experiences via Lolla's Secret Suppers.

• Sandra Liao, an engineer by training who became a self-taught cook and baker and now runs online store Milkbar, will showcase a selection of homemade cakes, tarts, and preserves. Every batch is made small in honour of the slow food movement which believes in old fashioned, traditional methods in making food.

More on Carrie K's Word Collection
The collection is inspired by the phrase "my word is my bond" – from the original "a gentlemen's word is as good as his bond." In the modern day context, Word also means Truth or "to speak the truth".

Comprising necklaces, bracelets and rings in Carrie K.'s signature silver, each item is engraved with a word or phrase that carries special meaning for its wearer. Apart from a readymade set of words selected from input into Carrie K.'s Facebook page, customised words are also available. Orders made at the showcase will be ready for collection on the 13th of February, just in time for Valentine's Day.

This collection started with the WORD ring and, due to popular demand, has now been developed into a full collection of necklaces and bracelets that feature phrases that are meaningful to the wearer or giver. One might wear the words to remind them to be the person they want to be, or simply to make a statement.

"The Word collection aims to make people stop and think about a word or a phrase that is important enough to wear as a badge or declaration. Once that declaration is etched in metal, it becomes their truth," said Carolyn.

The collection is available at the Carrie K. Atelier. Located at 136 Bukit Timah Road, it is open every Saturday from 2 to 7pm and on weekdays by appointment only.
