5th Anniversary Treasure Hunt at KEEPERS Orchard Road (October 12 to 18, 2014)
To mark the milestones since Carrie K.’s founding in 2009, shoppers are invited to awaken their inner child by participating in the Treasure Hunt. Clues will be given to enable them to locate one of five coveted designs selected from each year of Carrie K.’s five-year adventure: Mangle (2010), Fluid Bracelet (2011), Heavy Mettle Necklace (2012), Spilled Ring (2013) and Nail Ear Cuff (2014).
Milestones (2009 – 2014)
A year into founding Carrie K. Artisan Jewellery in 2009, Kan was awarded “Jewellery Designer of the Year” in the 2010 ELLE Awards. Beginning with designs created at her kitchen table, Carrie K. is now stocked in Singapore, Hong Kong, Korea, Japan, U.S., Italy and Australia. Besides having been personally selected by Yuji Yamamoto in 2011 and represented by his agency “Make One’s Mark” in Japan thereafter, additional milestones include having showed at Tranoï during Paris Fashion Week 2012, followed by Premiere Classe in 2013 – the two most sought-after shows in Paris – and at the most recently held Paris Fashion Week.
With the opening of the Carrie K. Atelier in October 2011, Kan established a platform cum showcase to highlight the craftsmanship of independent designers, artists and artisans to a community appreciative of such talent and calibre. KEEPERS, a quarterly collective showcase was thus born. In September this year, Kan co-spearheaded the launch of KEEPERS: Singapore Designer Collective together with TaFf (Textile and Fashion Federation). From September 12, 2014 to February 15, 2015, Singapore’s largest-ever and longest designer pop-up presents over 50 Singapore designers and artisans in a multifaceted retail showcase and event series that highlights their diverse range, capabilities and craftsmanship.
With increasing demand from fashion and design acolytes for well-crafted quality jewellery with a meaningful design that has a story behind it, Kan remarks: “We love what we do and will continue to inject a bit of playfulness into the world around us. To this end, we will grow our bespoke and fine jewellery line and impart a playful twist to this very traditional category”. She continues, “With growing affluence, customers appreciate jewellery that embodies an unusual story – particularly the range of wedding and engagement jewellery. The couple’s unique stories are distilled into their wedding and engagement rings as a meaningful reminder of their union”.
As interest in Asian designers grows, supported by the community and industry organisations, Carrie K. Artisan Jewellery aims to continue its role as a catalyst for possibilities – be it showing refreshing possibilities through jewellery and accessories or helping designers and artisans achieve their own possibilities.
