Singapore, May 11, 2015 – Inspired by seemingly mundane objects that are transformed into playfully provacative jewellery, Carrie K. Artisan Jewellery taps into 3D printing technology with the launch of “Burglar Ants” at Blueprint Pre-Spring 2015, May 14 till 17, 2015. Also showing at the same time are two new collections: “The Chain Gang” and “Morse Bling”.
“Burglar Ants” Collection
As one of three designers selected by Textile and Fashion Federation (TaFf) and International Enterprise Singapore (IE Singapore) to participate in FashionIsTech, Carolyn Kan, founder of Carrie K. Artisan Jewellery explored how 3D printing technology could combine with traditional craftsmanship to foster innovation in the local design scene.
With the storyline centred on a band of “Burglar Ants” that covet gems and not sugar crystals, Kan captured the characteristics of the three ants caught in mid-heist through different designs. Through the lens of a magnifying glass, the playful antics of the three ants unfold: Big L chilling out in his sunshades while Big W soldiers on with an eye mask and the Big Boss clearly leading the pack in hoisting the pink sapphire gem.
With increasing demand from fashion and design acolytes for well-crafted quality jewellery that has a story behind each meaningful design, Kan remarks: “We showcase what is interesting in the everyday that we tend to ignore, in this instance, the humble, hardworking ant! By embracing 3D printing technology in the area of fine jewellery, we have been able to develop designs with little details that previously could not be created using traditional methods. Following the formation of the wax master using 3D technology, we proceed to create each piece by hand”.
The “Chain Gang” Collection
Presented at Paris Fashion Week AW 2015, “The Chain Gang” collection evokes the story about a bunch of misbehaving chains that might hint at the wearer’s characteristics.
The Collection comprises necklaces – Crooked Path Necklace, Chain Reaction Necklace, Walk the Line Necklace, Ball and Chain Necklace – Chain Reaction Choker, Double Trouble Rings, Chain Reaction Earrings, Misfit Earrings and the Lock Up Bracelet.
The Collection will be launched from August onwards at the Carrie K. Atelier and KEEPERS: Singapore Designer Collective and is available in rose gold, yellow gold, silver and oxidised silver.
“Morse Bling” Collection
With each character represented by a unique sequence of dots and dashes, the “Morse Bling” rings lend an understated flair for ladies who wish to adorn their hands with these delicated bands.
Newly stocked in the Carrie K. Atelier and KEEPERS: Singapore Designer Collective each ring is made-to-order, allowing the ladies to divulge their secret code through alphabets crafted with diamond dots and gold dashes. The rings are available in silver and 14K gold with diamonds.
