“If you want to go fast, go alone. If you want to go far, go together”
For the warm hands on a cold night, tender hugs after a long day and simple acts of love through life’s journey - thank you Moms for ensuring we never walk alone.
We continue our milestones series with dynamic duo - the irrepressible Dee, founder of Bless Inc Asia and her mother Lily.
How would you describe your relationship with your mother?
Life partner! When I was young, it was very turbulent, as we are both very strong headed. But as we grow together in our lives, it has always been just the two of us. My mum raised me single handedly and she never remarried.
What do you appreciate most about your mother?
She supports me in everything that I do, even tho she may not necessarily agree to it in the beginning, but once she knows I’m adamant about doing something, it doesn’t take long for her to be on board. She has never asked me for anything as well, and is very independent, even when she’s not well. My mum is my greatest cheerleader.
Is there a milestone in your life that would not have happened if not for your mother's advice and support?
I would say, if she’s not there to support me, it wouldn’t be as smooth. I’ll always get her blessings before embarking on something new, and she always supports me, even my crazy diets!
Is there one milestone that your mother has achieved that you feel she should be giving herself more credit for?
My mum is a very simple person, the day she decided to split from my dad, I only realised many years down the road, how difficult it must be for her, and I should give her more credit for taking charge of her life. Now they have a better relationship and can be cordial with one another.
Can you describe with one word, what Dee was like as a child?
And what is the one word you would use to describe her now?
You must be very proud of Dee. What is the key thing about Dee that you are you proudest of?
When she decided to start her own PR agency, Bless. She did it all by herself and to see her going on for now 5 years and starting her 2nd business, she is unstoppable.
Can you share a key milestones in your life?
When I first became a mother.
What advice would you give your daughter at this point in her life?
To continue to live her life with confidence and be unstoppable.
With her, it's not just a milestone, it's a memory.
